A Better Theory

The professor and Nakar were talking during a commercial.
“Ten seconds,” came Asah’s voice over the intercom.
Nakar and the professor walked to their seats.
The red camera light came on.
“So give us an example of a better theory, Professor.”

“Certainly, Nakar. The best theory we currently have is the Hydroplate Theory. Its only assumption is that under a continuous granite crust exists a half mile layer of hot, pressurized carbonated water. While having only one assumption, it predicts over twenty-five major events and explains a vast number of smaller geological and global mysteries.”

“That seems fairly reliable, Professor. That’s a rating of twenty-five on my scale: the number of confirmed predictions divided by the number of assumptions. How does this cause a Mabbul?”

“The crust breaks,” Professor Tur explained, then sipped some
water. “We can take this assumption, and by turning the crank of
physics, we get amazing results!”
